UYO – The Nigerian Army has announced that its anti-bunkering operations in the Niger Delta region have significantly reduced oil theft, enhanced national production output, and contributed to ongoing economic recovery efforts under the current administration.
Brigadier General Jafaar Ibrahim, Commander of the 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, disclosed this during the Brigade’s combined West African Social Activities (WASA) event held at the Military Cantonment in Mbiokporo, Nsit-Ibom Local Government Area, on Saturday.
General Ibrahim reaffirmed the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace in Akwa Ibom State through collaboration with other security agencies. He highlighted the success of key operations, including Operation Delta Safe Joint Task Force South South (Sector 4) and Operation Thunder, which have significantly disrupted the activities of criminal elements in the region.
“The continuous conduct of various operations in the Brigade’s area of responsibility has drastically decreased security threats and restored confidence among Akwa-Ibomites,” he said.
He further emphasized: “The Brigade will continue to enthusiastically discharge its constitutional responsibility with responsiveness and loyalty.
“Our anti-bunkering operations have reduced oil theft to the barest minimum, thereby boosting national oil production to optimum levels, supporting national economic recovery.”
WASA Tradition and Stress Alleviation
The event’s Special Guest of Honour, Ambassador (Gen.) Godwin Umo (Rtd.), commended the 2 Brigade for hosting WASA, describing it as a long-standing tradition of the Nigerian Army.
General Umo explained that WASA was established by the Army’s founding fathers to foster camaraderie and celebrate achievements. He noted that the military profession is inherently challenging and stressful, and events like WASA provide an opportunity to alleviate tension and renew troops’ morale.
Military service worldwide is full of challenges, stress, and tension. WASA and similar activities are designed to de-emphasize these pressures, enabling troops to confront future challenges with renewed vigor,” Umo stated.
The event underscored the military’s dual role in ensuring security and fostering community engagement, particularly in regions critical to Nigeria’s economic stability.
